We have all kinds of reasons why we wait to pursue the creative projects we really want to work on. What are your reasons?
Not enough money? Don’t let that stop you. Bootstrap it!
Not ready yet? Of course you’re not ready. You’ll never be ready. Start anyway. You learn the most when you start before you’re ready. Fire, Aim, Ready.
Too nervous? That’s understandable. It’s scary to start something that feels big, or something that you’ve never done before. Remember that the best way to get rid of those nerves is to move forward and start anyway.
Not feeling motivated? Getting started, putting things in motion, and setting deadlines will get you motivated fast!
Not sure where to start? Help is available. Ask someone who’s done it or something like it. Book me for a coaching session.
Not living in the right place? You don’t need to live in New York or LA to get anywhere. Those days are gone. You can succeed from anywhere in the world.
Not enough help? Have you joined the Writers Room or the How to Write Funny Facebook group? If you’re feeling stranded, these are creative feedback groups you can join from anywhere in the world.
Waiting for everything to be perfect? Waiting for perfection is a form of self-sabotage. You’ll never get there. Start good, not perfect.
Waiting for the right time? The right time is now. There’s never been a better time.
You’re dealing with a lot of shit right now. Sometimes there’s shit to deal with. If the shit you’re dealing with is especially difficult, at least spend 10 minutes a day thinking about your project, talking to someone about it, or making a few notes.
You don’t like this part. If you’re not willing to endure or delegate the hard parts, why are you doing it? It’s time to ask yourself what you really want.
It’s too difficult. It only seems difficult because you’re not doing it. Once you start, you’ll build momentum. It’ll get easier. It’ll even get fun.
Don’t wait!
Waiting to start your creative project because you're not ready is like refusing to drive until there are no other cars on the road. It's not going to happen. The roads are busy. Get in the car.
This one's very timely for me, as this week has SUCKED. I haven't been as creative and feel a bit stagnant compared to the progress I've made recently on some projects. BUT I've managed to keep doing at least a bare minimum of work each day. So I'm taking that as a win.
