Goals

This is the post where we announce what we got done in the week to keep us accountable and use the immense power of social pressure to stay productive and achieve our goals.

I go first, and then you go in the comments.

The goals I have for 2026 are a bit insane. But that’s how I like it.

Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.

I love that saying. I quote it often. I never knew who said it until I looked it up just now. Turns out it’s Norman Vincent Peale, who wrote The Power of Positive Thinking.

Positive Thinking has been maligned for decades as useless hot air. But I love it. What’s a better option—negative thinking?

In 2026, my creative goals are to put together an hour-long show and perform it, and write or release at least 7 books. Many of these books were written last year, but they’re coming out this year, and that’s when I count them.

Business-wise, I’ll be releasing my Comedy Mastermind app (imminently), hosting FunnyCon (March 31-April 1), and launching a new How to Write Funny website and courses (spring/summer).

So this week I started into much of this, as I was largely playing catch-up in the first month and a half of 2026.

FunnyCon

I dealt with a ton of FunnyCon business, including creating and posting a snazzy Andy Daly reel on social media. Check it out here or here. I also hired a project manager, who I am extremely excited about. And I worked on planning a pre-event gathering in Chicago for February 18. Here’s the invite if you want to come.

Civil War Novel

I thought a lot about my new civil war novel and did more research. Turns out, almost every novel written about a second civil war so far has been a dead-serious far-right fantasy story in which Antifa subjugates the entire nation with their tyrannical policies, and brave freedom fighters have to rise up and fight against them.

These unintended satirical masterpieces are reverse inspiring me a great deal.

My brain-dump notes on the novel (plotline ideas, characters, and such) are attached below.

I also began the process of compiling much of the writing I’ve done on the first 5 books I intend to finish in the next couple of months, starting with the covers, which are all attached below.

That was my week! Let us know what you got done.
