This is the weekly post where we show up with the work we got done this week.

This simple act of reporting what we did keeps us accountable and makes us more productive. Just look at how productive everyone is in the comments—it’s inspiring!

Changes

A few months ago, I changed the description of this newsletter from “daily posts” to “semi-daily” because I knew I had some busy times ahead. I’ve been planning to scale back from doing daily posts here and focus more on the accountability post (for both you and me).

This week I only posted once in addition to the Weekly Accountability Post, and I used the time to do a few things:

Personal Stuff

The main thing this week was a family obligation that brought me to Chicago and required me to caretake full-time for three full days.

In addition to that, I did a day hike to Minnehaha Falls and along the Mississippi.

So, I only had three days to work with. I tried to make them count.

Novel-Outlining

While driving to Chicago (6 hours each way), I outlined the 5-book Fantastical Boyhood Adventures of Patrick Stoodle series of novels with some basic story beats. This is a labor of love (to write a fun, imaginative book series that I would have wanted to read when I was a kid). That work is below—some are more developed than others.

My other passion project of the week was re-releasing my pen-name novels. This will take a while. I started this week by re-working two opening chapters of my first-ever novel, the first in a series of 3, rearranging the chapters to give the book a better kickstart. I plan to write a new first chapter to book 1 this week.

I don’t show these non-comedic books to anyone, because I want them to succeed on their own merit, not on the coattails of my success in comedy. (Louis C.K. did the opposite with his non-comedic novel, and I think it’s kind of cheating.) In the interest of full disclosure, I’ll attach the chapters from this week below, but I won’t mention the title or pen name.

App

This week I entered what I believe are the final stages of testing the Comedy Mastermind App, and I hope to have it released by the time I post the next Accountability Post a week from now.

That was my week. How about you?
