Here’s a great framework for organizing your life that directly impacts how well you perform as a creative person. I heard it from mindset coach Rob Dial and loved it so much I had to pass it on:
He says you need 5 solid hobbies in life:
One hobby to make you money.
One hobby to keep you healthy and in shape.
One hobby that’s a creative outlet.
One hobby to build your knowledge.
One hobby to improve your mindset.
If your daily schedule is just a series of hobbies, where’s the toil? Every minute is fun, enjoying the journey becomes automatic, and you’ve gamified life.
I need one SUPER HOBBY that does all five.
A paid live streaming membership where I read books out loud while doing squats and painting with my feet.
I was once able to combine these pretty well. Still can, but not as much as when younger. "One hobby to make you money. One hobby to keep you healthy and in shape."
"One hobby that’s a creative outlet." I've earned money for putting down words on blank pages, but it's never enough! Never!
"One hobby to build your knowledge." Does surfing the Internet/reading Substacks until 3:25 a.m. count?
"One hobby to improve your mindset." No Dikkering Around...
