Rick Rubin has cultivated a wonderful look. He’s like a gag cartoonist’s drawing of the wise man at the top of the mountain. Monks ought to be climbing to him to discover the meaning of life.
He’s cultivated a persona to match. With an interesting past as a record producer and co-founder of Def Jam Records, he released a book on creativity about a year ago that’s a big bestseller.
It harmonizes with a lot of what I talk about in this newsletter. He comes at things from a more spiritual place, which can be fun to delve into.
Check out his book, The Creative Act: A Way of Being.
See what secrets he can dispense to you from the top of the mountain, and let me know what you discover!
Read a section a day, good reminder
I started reading Rubin's book when it came out. I enjoyed that documentary he did with Paul McCartney about McCartney's creative process. But I have to admit, I got bored with the book. It all seemed very familiar.
