All over the media world, for decades, the best and highest-paid comedy writers have racked their brains all day to come up with the funniest jokes they can think of.
These are brilliant, Harvard educated, comedy-club tested minds. And they come up with amazing material—incredibly funny stuff.
You’ve laughed hard at their work.
So why then, when you and your buddies are just joking around, or when your little sister wears her dog as a two-headed person costume, or when Dad runs out of the bathroom with his pants around his ankles chasing the kid who stole the toilet paper—why do those ordinary things make you laugh even harder?
Such stupid, unplanned things in real life make us double over and have trouble catching our breath because we’re laughing so hard.
Why is that?
Because real life is always funnier than written, prepared, and calculated comedy—no matter how brilliant it is.
Those of us obsessed with writing comedy and trying to make people laugh will never stand toe-to-to with real life.
Try as we might, it can’t be done. That’s just the way it is.
So, savor the ordinary—that’s where the real comedy is.
Or when I left my daughters house the other day and my 3yr old grandson said bye asshole 😅
