Jessica Delfino is an accomplished humor writer, author, and musician I met when she took one of my comedy classes.
She has an inside-baseball comedy newsletter on Substack you should check out.
Today she asked me to answer five inside-baseball, comedy-industry-related questions that were somewhat personal, and I thought I’d share them with you.
1. Do you still have any affiliation or relationship with The Onion?
No, except that a lot of the writers took my classes.
2. What is the largest amount of money you’ve ever made on a comedy project? What was the amount and what was the project?
The Onion, which made me millions of dollars. This begs the question, Why am I no longer affiliated with The Onion?
3. Are you still in love with comedy?
Yes I am.
4. Is there a comedian who you most identify with out there? A thought doppleganger or a kindred comedy spirit?
This changes over time, and right now it’s Nick Griffin. We’re about the same age and his jokes are just perfect.
5. Is there a comedian out there who did you dirty who still haunts you? If so, can you talk about the circumstances? If not, can you talk about your favorite comedy friend who did you right?
I can’t think of anyone who did me dirty, but there are many who did me right. Tim Clue is probably the comedian who did me the rightest. He mentored me, coached me, and taught me how to turn my fledgling stand-up into a lucrative career on the speaking circuit.
Great questions, great answers.
Cool, now I'm checking out Jessica Delfino, Nick Griffin and Tim Clue.
