The phrase “everything in moderation” gets tossed around too often. It’s the standard response when someone’s at risk of going overboard with something.
But what kind of a life is lived in moderation? An average one. A boring one.
Sure, some things should be indulged with moderation, like vices or guilty pleasures that might be potentially harmful in the long run. But everything?
Sometimes, going overboard is the spice of life.
Do you want to pursue your creative passions in moderation? Creatives who work reservedly rarely succeed. It’s the ones who work obsessively who inspire us all and rise to the pinnacle of fame and fortune.
There are plenty of other things that are more fun when pursued with obsessive passion instead of moderation: a new love affair, a new skill, education, health, helping other people, making the world a better place.
Let’s amend the phrase:
Everything in moderation, some things in obsession.
My favourite quote "everything in moderation, including moderation"
Agreed. Moderation for habits that are harmful, if not abstinence. Excess for habits that are joyful.
