A lot of people have been offended lately, particularly by jokes. Of course, people who are offended have a right to be, just as people telling jokes have a right to tell jokes people find offensive.
This whole freedom-of-speech thing seems wonderful and everything, but there’s a problem—people are getting offended.
Jokes from one end of the spectrum are offending people on the opposite end of the spectrum, and jokes from the opposite end of the spectrum are offending people on the other end of the spectrum.
Jokes from the middle of the spectrum are offending people on both ends of the spectrum.
On top of that, the joke tellers themselves, who worked hard on these jokes and braved the stage to tell them, are probably offended that all these ingrates are offended by their jokes.
In this nightmare scenario, everybody is offended. It’s a mess!
The solution, clearly, is to tell everyone to shut up.
No one should be allowed to tell jokes. And no one should be allowed to express how offended they are by jokes. No one should be allowed to write angry letters, call the switchboard, or boycott shows they find offensive. No one should be allowed to heckle.
This would be an easy law to enforce in my utopian scenario because there would be no comedians.
Imagine a paradise where no can be offended because no one is allowed to release any comedy. We’d finally be happy!
We’ll ban everything. Better yet, we’ll lock up everyone who has an opinion. Lock them up and throw away the key.
Actually, let’s execute them.
Now get back to work! This salt isn’t going to mine itself.
Brucking Filliant!
